Shoulder Mount Boom Pole ???

Does anyone make a shoulder mount boom pole? Anyone ever seen a DIY shoulder mount?

Cheers,
Pete

Should such a thing exist, what makes you think it would accomplish anything? Proper mic handling requires as much precision in positioning and aiming as does the camera. Dangling a mic vaguely pointing toward the subject from whatever random distance one happens to find oneself in is not going to capture decent sound except by rare happy accident. What you are asking for would be the sound equivalent of never looking through the camera viewfinder or touching the focus or iris. If you're shooting a sitdown interview, a carefully positioned boom on a c-stand might do the trick. If you're shooting walkabouts or action, you need to either get a boom operator to do the job right or put wires on the talent. As far as doing it yourself with a mic dangling out in front of you like an anglerfish's lure, fugeddaboutit.

@Pete: Are you talking about a rig for a camera op as per steve's post or a rig for your boom pole operator to lessen arm fatique? I haven't run across a shoulder rig but I recall a Portabrace product video for their sound harness that had a swivel waist-belt pocket for holding a boom pole or beverage can. In eaither case, you want to pay attention to handling noise.

Could you just stick the end of the boom pole in your sporran? You wouldn't even need the tassels.

About 25 years ago I was playing with a thing called "Supportapole" a harness mounted pole system.
KIT COOL have taken the idea to the next step and allowed the pole to lifted on and off. If you were doing a lot of boom work it would be worth investing in.

Have a look at the video clip on the site... nice

Thanks for the link Brian! That's an interesting solution.
