Recorded line in as mic...help

Sony pd 150
Live music video
XLR line from the mixing board was hooked to my pd150 but I had the input set as mic instead of line in. The music is very distorted because of my screwup but is there anything I can do to fix it?
any third party apps that can possibly repair it..... or am I just screwed?

I believe that you are out of luck.

As a last resort, you may try Sony's Noise Reduction set of filters. One is "Clipped Peak Restoration". Since your input levels were way too high, unless you compensated by turning down the gain, I do not think anything will correct the problem.

The Clipped Peak Restoration will work wonders on occassional over-modulated audio, but in my opinion, it will not help much on audio which is constantly way over modulated.

If you have access to this software, in Vegas or another Sony or Sonic Foundry program, then give it a try.

Thanks for the tip on the sony filters. When I recorded the line in, I had the levels on the camera turned down so that the meters were around 0 (or possibly a little lower/ -2) They definately were not pegged out to the high side. I didn't have head phones on so I couldn't tell that it was distorted, I just adjusted the levels so that they were good. (I didn't even think about it being set on "mic" instead of "line in" because the levels were good)

Just to clarify what happened to you, the level meters indicate recording level, not input level. It's a very common error to overload the input and not know it because the levels were adjusted to look good. All that means is that you are recordng a clipped signal at the proper level.
