Does a Sennheiser G2 transmitter work with a G3 receiver?
I have the Sennheiser EW 100 G2 SK100 D Bodypack Transmitter, frequency range 786-822 Mhz. However I lost the matching receiver, and need to replace it.
Will the Sennheiser EK 100 G3 Portable Mic Receiver 780-822 MHz work? Sennheiser EK-100 G3 Portable Mic Receiver 780-822 MHz I asked the staff in the online store, where I'm about to buy it, but they did not think it would work, even though its roughly the same frequency range. Anybody out there who knows? Many thanks Emil |

It might work. Like the online shop people, I would bet against it. Determining whether it would work requires either access to information not readily available, or simply trying it.

AFAIK, the two are compatible where the frequencies overlap.

It should, I mix and match 'Block A' G2 and 3's occasionally. Make sure all the other pertinent settings are the same like the pilot tone.. You may have to custom set some channels in the user bank, some of the G2/3 factory preset channels differ.

I regularly use a G1 and G2 together, and I believe the 2 and 3 are much closer in operation.

All three of the generations of Sennheiser use compatible specs, apart from the pilot tone on the original, but you can switch that off anyway. So dial up the same frequency and away you go. The G3 has a wider range, so if you select a channel the others cannot tune to - of course that's a problem.

All Sennheiser evolution transmitters are fully compatible - even back to the original G1 series.
There are just a few things to watch:- 1) The newer ones have a much wider frequency window than the earlier ones - so you have to have the same frequency on both units. 2) If you use a G1 transmitter with a G2 or G3 receiver, then you have to switch "Pilot OFF" on the receiver as the G1 series did not have Pilot squelch. 3) If you use a mono radiomic. transmitter with an IEM receiver, you have to switch "Pilot OFF" on the receiver as the mono transmitters use a different pilot frequency than the stereo ones. All evolution series use HDX noise reduction, so they will all work with each other - G1, G2, G3 and 100 series, 300 series, 500 series and also including the new 2000 series - they will all work with each other. The extreme being a G1 unit with a 2000 series unit - it's all OK. |

Sound quality wise, there would be negligible difference between a G2 and G3 EK100 portable receiver if interference is not the issue.
The diversify system primarily addresses multi-path interference. |

with g2's I have noises after 15 meters and very often in some environments (arbour) also at ridiculous distances I have those noises, of course probably a more powerful (more then 30 mw) may help but also a diversity receiver, is this right?

You don't say what noises, but if it's hiss and swooshing, the it's an RF problem, and quite normal. You can improve it by making sure the aerials are clear of obstructions, and not pushed hard against a body, and yes a diversity receiver works better, but on a camera mounted receiver, frankly not much better, because if you are in a null, then both aerials will probably be in the same one. Spaced aerial diversity works an awful lot better.
More power helps, but is not a panacea. Battery power can get you from earth to space, but megawatts might not give you a picture across town on your TV. |
