"As you pick a solution keep heat in mind"
-- I've worked in both extremes and put Garfield Softies on my 7506.... Cheap and easy, warm in the winter, cool in the summer. Garfield Co. Headphone Softies I've have not tried one but, Koala Windsocks Soundman Sun Hat are available from the usual suspects. |
Re: Closed headphones for loud sets?
If you want the isolation but maybe not so worried about quality, then drum headphones work well (but clamp your head like a vice)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Direct-Sound.../dp/B0002GZLY2 or dirt cheap ones Drummer Headphones, CD-500 Manufacturer -- Yoga Electronics Co., Ltd. is a leading supplier and exporter of Drummer Headphones, CD-500 in Taiwan, Asia (less than £40) DT-100s have less isolation, but sound better. For better quality look at Peltors. |
Re: Closed headphones for loud sets?
Interesting you guys mention heat, as the sweat and the heat have just worn the ear covers onmy 7506's to shreds.
I will keep that in mind. Al |
Re: Closed headphones for loud sets?
Another possibility- something I did before I owned my IEMs, is a combination of musician's ear plugs and closed-ear headphones. The 15dB cut Etymotic Research ear plugs are remarkably flat- I've mixed live sound for some very loud shows with them in without issue. The 25s are pretty flat, but not as good sounding as the 15s (but needed in a loud environment).
I've put the 15s in, then turned the headphones up. With the plugs in, the SPLs coming off the cans weren't an issue, but still offered pretty good isolation. Still, though, these are custom molded plugs and while a whole lot cheaper than IEMs, they still aren't terribly cheap (a couple hundred dollars per pair usually with the molds). --Ben |

Re: Closed headphones for loud sets?
Technically those seem like a good solution for some gigs. But shame of Sony for making them white. Why bother wearing show blacks if your cans look like they deployed airbags!
