Rode Videomic Pro wire snapped

1 Attachment(s)
On a shoot today the small wire on my Rode Videomic Pro snapped in two near the connection with the camera (see attached picture.) What is the best way I can fix this/get this fixed, assuming it can be fixed.

Has anyone else experienced this? I didn't put any real pressure on the wire at all, so it kind of worries me how flimsy this wire could be.

Thanks for any help.

Contact RODE. As I recall the mic comes with a 10-year guarantee. They have truly excellent customer service (which I can state from direct personal experience - not with this problem though) so I am sure they will get you sorted out.

Thanks for the info. You're right, it's eligible for repair from the warranty so they gave me info to send it back. It's just a pain since I need it for a job this weekend so now I'll have to rent one.

It just snapped when I was moving it. I only touched it really lightly.

Good luck! From the position of the cut, my guess (and that's all it can be) is that maybe the cable got snagged within the cold shoe, either when you were mounting or (less likely) dismounting the VMP's foot. Then maybe when you handled it the cable then parted. Of course, it could be something else entirely - I forget the exact material/spec on the cable but I think its pretty strong despite its tiny diameter.

Let us know how you get on.

I had thought it was strong too, but maybe that's what happened. Thanks for the advice, sending it out today!

Andy is correct. The first 1000 Rode VMPs have mic cable made by Mogami and the tensile strength and the newer cable is very strong.

Cheers.
