Will this work on my rode NTG2 which is now minijack output in my case?

Yes, that Beachtek model with 3.5mm inputs and output is probably the best solution if you want to keep using that microphone. It does essentially the same thing as that Sescom level control, but with a better form-factor, and connectors which match your equipment.

NOTE:
1) A shotgun mic is NOT a good choice for what you are doing.
2) It is NOT true that an attenuator will prevent you from controlling levels. It only reduces them, which is exactly what you seek.
3) That JVC camera model is an excellent example of modern equipment optimized for great video but treats audio as an afterthought or a 3rd class passenger.

I would try using a much less sensitive, cardioid or even omnidirectional microphone. Such as an Electrovoice 635A
