New Schoeps shotgun

Wow... that's pretty exciting! I'll bet this shotgun will be a household name within 6 months... just like mkh60 or 416 or CS3e.

Here's a few thoughts off the top of my head;

1) Why hasn't anybody considered making a mic anything but black or silver earlier (or silver-gold... or flat-gray)? And I don't mean like those plastic mics or cheap jobs.

2) This mic will be black by next year's model release.

3) The pattern as shown doesn't appear to be equal to or better then the mkh60 pattern as shown.

4) Everybody and their brother is going to want one and the price will stay super-high unless a weakness is found.

5) Schoeps will have to edit the pages of reasons why shotguns are no good for location sound. (The pages explaining the difference in hypers and shotguns... which leaves you questioning the value in ANY gun over a 41.)

6) 3.8 ounces?! Jeez... I don't know what to think of that... sure it's cool that it's so light, but when you get a 416 you feel like your money went into something permanent. (by holding it and feeling the solid construction and mass)

7) With the earned reputation and sheer perfection of other Schoeps mics you can bet that this thing is gonna' rock.

8) How long before we can get an audio comparison of this mic and an mkh60? I want to hear the same voice through a split stereo recording... my guess is that the Schoeps will have that super-crisp sound that the 41 has, but unless the price is at least in the ballpark of the 60, 81i, CS3e... that it will slowly gain favor.

9) Other newcomers were adopted pretty quickly... but they were also in the price-range of the competition. Schoeps has been fairly immune to the competition issue with their hypers... and clearly they're making a bold statement with the blue... so it'll be interesting if they can step in at a way higher price and then deliver a performance to justify the extra cost. I'd be surprised if they couldn't... but this 'aint the sparse "hyper cardioid" segment we're talking about either... there are already some EXCELLENT shotguns in the upper end.

10) I can't wait to read more about this mic.

What have people been matching the 41 with for
outdoors to get a similar sound to the 41 indoors?

i like the blue color. think it will key out? :-)
