That auto sensing switch sounds like a great idea.

Anyone got any hard data - specs, prices, performance examples etc?

With a name like Deity, what could possibly go wrong?

Saw them at NAB. Worth a shot. They made some improvements over the first Deity.

Tell you what - after listening to that NAB clip, I shan't be pensioning off my 416 quite yet!

I'm not "100 percent" convinced that coating the PCB in epoxy is going to solve all the problems of using a non-RF condenser in "100 percent humidity" conditions. I'll stick to RF condensers for Scottish (and Welsh!) weather.

Anyway, like Paul, I'm not particularly impressed with the sound when they switched over to the Deity on that video.

"100 percent brass" - I look forward to hearing about the new dielectric and insulating brass alloys which they must have developed for its construction. (Couldn't resist - oops!)

What do you mean? They didn't even give you any sound clips to make such a conclusion.

Plus Deity's market isn't existing 416 owners (unless they're looking at some kind of extra/back up microphone) but rather new upcoming owners instead.

Well, most of my mics bought remotely have been where somebody plugged one in, recorded something and I liked it. Liked it enough to buy one. The sound on the clip is so you can hear the mic, I listened and hated it. I don't want to listen to a clip recorded in a studio, shotguns and location mics have to cope with the environment and I thought this one didn't do it very well - in fact, it sounds very similar to the usual common video mics sold with all sorts of wonderful specs, that just don't sound very nice.

Davids clip at 3:P48 when they drop the lavs and let you hear. Personally, the lavs were better - the shotgun is harsh and not very nice to my ears? I used the recording David posted - was that wrong? Seems pretty obvious to me, or have I missed something?

These mics are not cheap either - did he say $300? You can get a 2nd hand AKG for this kind of money!

I was wondering which clip you were referring to... as I thought none of them included an example sound!

But that time stamp you gave helped a lot, and I realised you meant the very first video.

You do of course realize this is being done at NAB!!! Of course no wonder it would say bad at 20 inches away and a lav inches away from his mouth would sound better. D'oh

Wait to hear an A/B comparison with other shotguns, as you really can't draw any kind of firm conclusion at all until that happens. And done in a more typical environment.

$300ish is indeed very cheap for a pro grade shotgun.

That Deity D3-Pro looks like a very practical mic.
