Sennheiser MKH416/Fostex Fr2
 

I've been using the Sennheiser mkh416 short shotgun and Fostex Fr2 field recorder now for about 2 weeks and the combination is fantastic.
I've been using the mic on a boom pole and the sound quality is just out of this world.
The Fostex is a suprisingly lightweight and compact solid state recorder. I record onto 3 4gb compact flash cards.
I'll never use the built in mic on my sony PD-170 again except as a guide track.
