MAC audiophiles: Broader Question
 

OK. I'm no longer interested in FLAC for MAC (as apparently no one else is either) so let me just ask the MAC users:

What is the best way to get high quality audio files onto your computer over the internet for use in professional audio/video applications.

It's got to be lossless, and it's got to be convenient for you to use.

Any suggestions?

Hi quality .MP3s converted to .AIFs work for me when I download something. Otherwise I use a standard 48khz .AIF.

Thanks for your response Dave. But doesn't lossy compression bother you? It would be compressed, and the converted. Then it might get compressed again (depeding on how you deliver it).

Maybe I'm overly paranoid about compression and recompression, but I think I can hear the difference on good speakers or headphones.

Have you ever tried Apple lossless codec? It's available in itunes and according to the web site is compatable with any "quicktime based" apps. So I'm guessing that would include FCP

It is all about what the client will accept. MP3 files, at the right bitrate, 192 or better, seem to work just fine, despite our own personal (whether "paranoid" or not) preferences.
