looking for pro audio monitors for pc!!
 

i'm mixing right now and i have really crappy speakers, what do u guys suggest i get.

Those Creative Labs speakers aren't going to get you much of anywhere, I doubt they're much better than what you have.

What's your budget?
What are you mixing?
How large is the room?

these are all considerations. If you have a budget that is so low as only the Creatives you're looking at will afford...then I'd keep mixing on whatever you have and save your $$ for a good set of monitors.

yah i'm in large room, i'm mixing a audio+music for a film. i can spend a little more cash, i just dont know where to look or for what. If i i need to go to a specialized store to get em or high end speakers from an electronics store would do the job..etc..

I'd be looking at (in my fave order)

Hothouse (Very expensive)
Genelec (fairly expensive)
Mackie (very affordable/high end)
Event (very affordable/high end)
M-Audio (very affordable/upper middle end)

there are also systems from Tannoy, KRK, Alesis, and other companies. If it comes from a computer supplier, I wouldn't look even once at the product. If it comes from a music store, I'd look once, maybe twice. If it comes from a pro audio shop, look hard and listen close.

What is a "large" room? 20 x 20? 20 x 40? Somewhere in there?

You might also want to check out the KRK Rockits.

A friend who does a lot of music work and audio engineering would highly recommend the Genelecs.

I'll second Doug's recommendation on the Genelecs and another impressive sounding monitor to consider is the Dyn-Audio BM5a or BM6, same general price range as Genelec. If you're on a very tight budget, give a listen to Yorkvilles - surprisingly good sound at a very low price.

I see you're in Vancouver. Long & McQuade has stores in your area and their stores here in Ontario have a decent selection to audition setup for A/B switching between the various models. Take a CD or two of music you know well with you and compare the sounds.

While you should NOT use them for your final mix, you also should have (IMO) a good pair of pro-quality headphones such as Sony MDR7506 to listen critically to your tracks in isolation looking for noise, pops, etc that might otherwise get overlooked.

I recently got a pair of M-Audio DX-4 powered monitors (4" woofer) from Guitar Center for $149. So far, I am very pleased, they sound great. Obviously, won't fill a large room with thumping bass.
