Low lvl on mixer?

I have done it all, moved the mic closer to the talent, cranked to the lvl to the ceiling, but my lvls stay around -20 db on a talent the mumbles :( What should I do about this, some talents are good. I us a FP33 mixer and tram mics, but still can't compencate for mumblers. If you got any ideas let me know.

Thanks :)

Time to put on your director's hat and explain to the talent what you need from them.

Yup!

On the other end of that. You'll also run across talent who needs to think about expressing emotion with acting instead of volume.

...Talent?

You could always take a lesson from Wilson on TV's "Home Improvement." Composite in something to obscure the lower face of your talent and hire a VO actor to record replacement dialog in post.

If you have the level cranked and the voice still peaks at -20, there must be some other problem than the 'talent' voice amplitude. If I turn my rig all the way up, room tone will be at -20. Can you describe your set-up?
