How to convert mini-stereo to XLR?
 

I have a kind of "reverse" problem. I need to connect a cheap wireless with the typical 1/8 stereo mini-jack to a DVX100 which has, of course, nice XLR inputs. (When I had another camera, I used a studio one adapter to solve the reverse problem, XLR mike to mini-jack camera inputs).

But now I need to connect the "less professional" jack to my XLR only camera.

I would appreciate hearing the specifics of a solution from anyone who has made this work. I expect someone sells an adapter but it's not obvious to me just what I must have or where to find it.

Rode makes an inexpensive adapter.

Any issues? (e.g. phantom power?)
 

I assume you have used this adapter without problems? I also assume that turning on phantom power might be a "bad idea" in this configuration?

I have not yet used the adapter with a phantom powered setup. With battery powered mics -> passive XLR, it works as advertised.

Core Sound makes one as well. It is a female stereo miniplug to 2 x XLR. I couldn't find a direct link to that product, but here is Core Sound's Web site.

I have one, and it is of good quality. I have never forgotten to turn off phantom power using this cable, but I wouldn't suggest it.

I made that mistake connecting a Lectronics transmitter to our mixer using a similar (mono) adapter and it caused a short that killed the batteries in the mixer in about 45 minutes. They felt hot to the touch too when I removed them. The manufacturer said there was no possibility of damage to the mixer (assuming the batteries don't explode!) with this setup though.
