Eliminating Clothing Rustle
Hi Everybody!
I was on a shoot yesterday running audio. We were using wireless lav mics on the talent (three actors) and two of them were no problem. On the third I got more than the usual clothing rustle. I was hiding the lav under his tie and under the shirt where it overlaps to button. I was using moleskin over the mic to cut down on the scratching. This worked well on the other actors, but not as well on him. Maybe a different kind of fabric, I don't know. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear anyone's suggestions for how to cut down on that even more in the future. Thanks!! Rob |
Try one of the stretchy bandaids. They work pretty well.

Clothing noise depends alot on the type of fabric involved, so everyone is different. I've had good luck with the trick of using little triangles of 1" camera tape/gaff tape folded sticky side out to hold the fabric in place on either side of the mic. Other tricks such as anti-static spray or a spritz of water sometimes help too.

Tell them to take off their clothes.
