Another Phantom vs. Battery Question

I just purchased the ME-66 with the K6 power module for my XL2, and I read from the reports that phantom power produces the best sound. So can someone explain to me when I would ever need to use battery power for my ME-66? Will phantom have a noticable effect on my battery life? Thanks.

Phantom versus batteries. It depends on the phantom supply. You may be OK.
Use the battery in situations where you're plugging into a source that doesn't provide phantom power.

Be aware that some mic supplies are antagonistic to phantom supply. If you have both on, in some combinations, they fight each other, heating the batteries and shortening the battery life drastically.

Be aware that you may need to keep a battery in place in the mic (even if it's dead) to conduct the external phantom power to power the mic.

The mic draws a lot less power than the camera, so the effect on your camera's battery life won't be significant.
