Rode Video Mic newbie question

I've just acquired a Rode video mic and am having some trouble mounting it onto my camera.

The hot shoe mount fits onto my camera easily and securely. It looks like a screw is supposed to go through one of the holes in the bottom of the microphone mount, and then into the hotshoe mount - but there doesn't seem to be any thread inside the hole in the hotshoe mount which would receive the screw. With nothing to secure it, the microphone mount just sits on the hotshoe mount, and of course just falls off at the slightest motion.

If anyone could advise whether I have a faulty hotshoe mount, or whether I'm just doing something wrong, then I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Gary.

Gary, the square plastic piece (30mm x 30mm) at the base of the unit slides into your hotshoe. There should be a 4cm diameter wheel that screws down to snug the whole unit to your hot shoe. Check Rode's website to make sure what you got looks like their unit.

Be the way, I assume you are asking about the mono mic and not the new stereo mic.

Hope that helps.

Curt

I have a similar situation with one of my mic mounts, but its not a Rode. There is a hole in the base with no threads. What i did is was force a small round peice of rubber through the hole and trim it off at the bottem so there is enough protruding ,causing resistance that hold's the bracket securely in the hot shoe.At the same time I am still able to slide the bracket in and out with a slight amount of pressure. Not the most effeciant method but it does work, and lets me use what would otherwise be a usless bit of gear.

Cheers guys. I'll give your solution a go, Joe.

Thanks a lot.

Gary.
