Interveiw sound recording,backup?

Would a hand held interveiw mic such as an Electro Voice Dynamic RE-50 work in combination with a Sony MZ-100 or similar Hi-MD mini disc recorder. Has anyone used such a set up ?

Does the mic require phantom power of any kind? MD recorders only have plug in power which maxes out at about 9 volts I believe.

The RE50 works fine with my Sony Hi-MD MZ-RH910 recorder. It is dynamic and does not need phantom power.

Initially, I had the RE50 plugged directly into the mic input, but I eventually bought the Beachtek DXA-10 adapter so I could take advantage of the line input, phantom powered mics, and also give the audio signal a bit more oooomph.

Velcro'd together, the Hi-MD recorder and DXA-10 make a nice portable-digital-audio-2-track recorder.

I thought as much from the name of the mic but I just wanted to point out the possibility that it wouldn't work because of voltage. I thought it was a good time to point out the differences in how mics are powered.

Yes, and that is a very good point Jeff, right out of the box, almost all MD/Hi-MD recorders will only work with a dynamic or battery-powered mic.

A good choice for interviews in noisy rooms?
 

I'll be shooting some interviews in a night club (I'm not the interviewer, just the shooter). I would think that I would want a dynamic mic over a condenser, correct? Does anyone have any tips for dealing with this kind of situation?

It'll be fairly low-tech, too. I'll just be going straight into my Canon GL2 (still saving for a real audio set-up)
