Sound for theatrical release question

Hi guys,

My first film will be released in the theatres this year end, and i've just tested our film sound in a theatre. Our sound was done by an independent sound studio.

Our soundtrack sounds clean, but somehow it's not as crisp and clear (clarity wise) as other movies I've seen.

We've done the final mixing, but we haven't do the mastering. I am not sure if the lack of crispness of the sound is due to mastering or other factors.

Any ideas? How much difference in quality would mastering make?

Check that that the independent sound company mixed on an "x curve." I've had some that didn't even know what it means. That could be your problem.

Good luck with your film.
