Headphones impedance

Hello,

I don'ty know anything about electronics...

I'm investigating for a good but not expansive headphones to use with my camera (in a more or less ENG spirit) and I ended with the Sony MDR 7056 and the Beyer DT100 ( http://www.beyerdynamic.com/cms/Head...ash=4b11f4902a )

There are no options for the Sony but the Beyer is avalabkle in 16 ohms and 400 ohms.

What is the right value for a camcorder (in my case a XL2) ?

Thanks in advance

Luc

The output impedance for the headphones is not specified in the XL2 manual but for the XL-H1 it is specified as 50 ohms. It is unlikely that Canon changed the headphone output circuit in developing the XL-H1 so I think we are safe assuming that the output impedance of the XL2 is also 50 ohms. In that case 16 ohm phones would be a closer match (the output level in the XL-H1 spec is given for a 16 ohm load) and, thus, technically the better choice. However if you chose the 400 ohm option you would only lose 3 dB so practically speaking either will do.
