Mini-DV Audio to CD-R?
 

I have a 1-hour Mini-DV tape in my camera which I would like to do a direct transfer of the audio only to CD-R to play in my car or regular home CD player. I didn't want to generate a humongous .WAV file or have create a multitude of small .WAV file segments to do so. I can burn a DVD directly from the camera through firewire with no problem with my software, but of course, the DVD won't play in my car CD player. Is there an easy way to do this transfer to an audio CD-R from Mini-DV? Thanks for your replies!

You should be able to 'play' the tape's audio out of the camera, into a stand-alone CD recorder, or into the sound card of a computer, then burn a CD from the results. I've done the same thing with an old cassette tape a customer wanted copied to CD. I hooked up a cassette deck to the sound card's inputs, then 'recorded' the desired tracks to a file, then burned a CD. In my case I cleaned it up as much as I could with some inexpensive software I'd bought for the purpose, but the result was suprisingly good!

Like Mark said, a stand-alone CD recorder will do exactly what you want.
If you have to record the audio-only into the computer or an audio-data recorder, the file will be less than 600 megabytes, which isn't very big. Then you have flexibility to do anything with it. Regardless of your method, you'll still have a minimum of 1-hour dub time while your mini-dv tape plays back in real time. That's the main headache with using mini-dv for audio, just like it was with DAT.
