Audio thru Audacity is Echo-y - how to get rid of it?

I just recorded some audio directly to my laptop from my mic - through Audacity as per suggestions from here. Thru the headphones it sounds good, but for some reason, it is echo-y. Is there something that can fix this or how can I blend it better to get rid of it. I never put any filters on it to begin with, so I don't know why, but there it is...
or what is the best method to Fatten the sound so it covers the echo?

Also, any idea why it turned out with an echo? It was run from a shotgun mic to my laptop computer (it was running some other audio software at the same time) through Audacity (latest stable build)?
