Wayne, well done on the Coffey Sound article!

Thanks also for the pointer to Decca Tree. In my mind it was exotica of a bygone era, but with your strong recommendation I'll be looking for an opportunity to try it. I was especially interested to read that some recordists have been using stereo pairs as the center microphone...

Happy Holidays everyone!

A stereo pair is an option, but I am not so sure what any pair would improve on what I can use now, which is a pair of Senn MKH416s.

My better choice seems to be the Studio Projects LSD-2, selling for $628.50. And I don't think any Shure or Audio-Technica can beat it in audio quality.

Are there other quality choices?

Hello Carlos,

What do you want to record and where do you want to record it?

Regards,

Here is a sample I recorded using a Decca Tree recently. This is Knights of Steel, an Austin, TX high school steel drum band. http://www.austinschools.org/campus/...s-of-Steel.htm
It consists of about 10-15 players depending on the arrangement.

This was recorded at their concert, before they went off to the Midwest Clinic (an international band and orchestra conference held in Chicago).http://www.midwestclinic.com/

It was recorded using 3 Earthworks QTC-1/QTC-40 mics (I have one set labeled QTC-1 and one set label QTC-40) using a decca tree on the Deva 5.8. They amplified the bongo drums, so they are a bit much in the mix, but there is little I could do about it.
