iTunes Selling DRM-Free Songs

iTunes is supposed to start selling DRM-Free songs in May. I cannot find any information on their site (or anywhere else) about when this might happen. If they do this or if any other MP3 site does this, please let everyone know...

And your point is?

DRM-free does not mean copyright free. In effect, the fact that iTunes indeed is selling DRM free songs from two labels has zero effect on our industry. It merely means we can play them on more devices.

While Spot is totally correct, wouldn't it be wonderful if Jobs would someday twist the music industry's arm as he did in making sensible licensing of popular music for private use a reality - and get the big rights holders to bless a system where videomakers could affodably buy limited use rights to popular music for minor commercial purposes?

I'd imagine that the wedding industry alone would generate HUGE dollars if they could license songs for $5, $10, or even $25 bucks and LEGALLY use them in a limited release family wedding video.

And I know I'd jump for joy if I could license a old minor pop song for a corporate video for even a few hundred bucks.

The system in place today of trying to track down sync rights and negotiate multi-thousand dollar useage fees puts legal music rights out of all but the largest corporate users.

I suspect there are BILLIONS of bucks in small licensing deals could be flowing through such a system if it weren't so foolishly onorous to even try to make a legal deal.
