Follow Focus
Hi all,
Apologies if this thread is anywhere else - if so, please delete it if you want. I merely would like to know if there is a list of all the suppliers of FollowFocus units? I'm eager to get my hands on one ASAP. Regards Tim |
Indifocus www.indifocus.com
RedRock FF www.redrockmicro.com Cinevate will have a model soon www.cinevate.com Foveas wireless follow focus for steadicam/jib systems www.foveas.com/rff.html Cavision makes a good unit as well http://www.cavision.com/follow_focusing.htm There is a search function for these forums that can find answers like these fairly quickly, I promise :) |
Yes, and if all goes well, we'll debut the Cinevate follow focus at the Canon Pro Expo in Toronto this week. I'll be there with Canon's XH-G1/Brevis35 outputting footage via SDI, and an HV20/Brevis Flip Module/Brevis35 combination. If you're in Toronto for the show, stop in and say hello!

Check out the latest DV Magazine. They did a shootout of the leading follow focus units. Great resource. I don't know if it's online yet, but definitely in the print version. They give the Redrock microFollowFocus very high marks. Also they didn't mention for the $645 you also get the microLensGears. Cheers Brian |
Hi Brian,
Thansk - I have often for a free subscription as I'm here in the UK. Hopefully won't be too long before I get a copy online. |
FF & Gears
This unit is very similiar to Redrock http://www.thecinecity.com/product.p...cat=259&page=1
|
Wow - that is just a flatout ripoff of the redrock microFollowFocus and microLensGears. Looks like a pretty poor imitation at that.
|
It seems the entire Cinecity.com site is a ripoff... I don't trust it.
|
You can get them from Ebay and they all come form India. I think the company from India also copies Cavision & Chroziel rails and matteboxes.
Check it out here: I bought some things from thier Ebay store before. The shpping is really fast, but the end product varies. Some are o.k but some are just cheap plastic. Anyway the gears from Redrock are also plastic. I'll skip the Follow Focus . But for $50 for a set of 4 lens gears, I think I 'll give the gears a try. |

While I can appreciate the desire to spend the least amount of money possible, I would encourage you not to to spend your money with them. Redrock spent a lot of time and money developing this design (patent-pending by the way), which they obviously stole so they did not incur this cost, yet they want to profit from our hard work. If they want to develop their own design then that's great, they can put in their own R&D effort and dollars. If you want to know how you can make a difference for US companies, here's a great example. Thanks for your consideration Brian |
Hi Tim Long time no spk how's the SGpro? Waynes making a follow focus should be due next month

Thanks Russell
Yes, we are shipping the first 30 SGfollow focus units at the end of this month :) Here is a 3D render of the SGfollow focus unit. The measurements are exact, so the unit will look exactly like this: http://sgpro.co.uk/SGfollow%20focus02.jpg |
Will the focus be compatible with whips or to speed cranks for other manufacturers like Chrosziel.
|
A small adapter will be released shortly after for a standard accessory port. Right now it has it's own connection for it's own speed cranks.

Slightly off topic, but where can I get gears for video lenses for use with follow focus systems on the following video cameras:
- Canon XL2/XLH1 - Canon XHG1/XHA1 - Panny HVX - Panny DVX - Sony Z1/FX1 - or Canon/Fujinon 2/3" lenses? Thanks (PS - for Wayne Kinney - is the sgpro now priced at £410 or £430?) |
Hi,
It is £410 ex VAT. I've now updated my sig, thanks :) |
Regarding products from CineCity - I would order with caution.
I bought the 'U Fly Steadycam' which came to around 45 including shipping from India. It arrvied within 3 days which was good. After setting up the thing, I could not get the weights to balance correctly on the rig and equal the weight of my FX1 - therefore it was useless. Furthermore (and here's the worst part), the plate and holder for the FX1 on the rig is plastic, and my FX1 FELL OUT of the rig. Thankfully only a couple of feet from a soft landing. I was refunded 100%, but would be weary of ordering products from them again. Guess it comes down to the old saying 'you get what you pay for'. |
Wow, that post earlier is rather embarrassing :-)
The good news is that our FF is shipping, and is miles better (including a lifetime warranty) than what we had at the Pro Expo show. FreshDV will have one shortly to add to their review. Cheers, Dennis Wood www.cinevate.com |
Hi all,
Just a question about the MicroFF from RedRock. I want to know about its general quality and most of all if it has any backlash problems. Thanks a lot. |
