1.6x Magnification

Does the extreme Magnify like my older Letus XL?
(or is the Magnification in the XL mount - and if so will this be true for the latest XL)
Thanks,

Phil Bloom January 10th, 2008 02:10 PM

no, because it currently only screws onto the stock lens so there is no magnification.

When the new relay comes out it should be 1:1 too

John Benton January 10th, 2008 02:25 PM

Thanks Phil.
Appreciated.
I have had and love the LetusXL but the Magnification factor has been painful.
I am looking forward to the Extreme and will be using it with the H1 and the new Hv30...

the new Letus footage on your blog is beautiful!
Thanks for all your great work

J

John - speaking of HV 30 - I was thinking about something like this - 35 mm DOF point and shoot set-up. Perfect second unit camera (to the XL H1 ;-)

Will relay lens work with Letus mini?

I have a Sony A1U right now and might pick up the new Sony Z7U when it comes out. Would the relay lens work with the Letus mini too so I can use the same adapter for both cameras? Thanks!

One more question. If the wonderful folks at letus is making flip module that works with any adapter. Would the relay lens by any chance work with other adapters as well, assuming it just attached on the back of the flip module?

Hi Phil, I've been trying to get actual clarification of this most important question.

I had gotten word that the new HD100 Extreme would be 1.4x magnification which would obviously be an improvement over the 1.9X of the original Letus HD100 version (which I have), but still a disappointment if it isn't a true 1:1.

The big question is are the Les able to add the relay lens while maintianing the 1/2 stop light loss and true field of view?

Waiting to hear on this so we can trade up...really don't want to go back to the P+S.

I got this message from Aaron at Letusdirect.com
Quote:

Hello,
The relay will be released in April. It will be a 1:1 lens with no zoom factor. The entire relay is being custom made down to every optical element. The relay will out-perform the stock lens in quality. Current price is expected to be around $1,200. If you have any other questions, please let me know. We'll have more specs in a few weeks as we get closer to wrapping up the final design.
Thanks,

Yeah, I had the same communication with Aaron the past couple of days and here was my response FWIW:

<<Thanks Aaron,
If the price is going to be 2 1/2 times what the original Letus cost for the JVC and Canon, the real issue is going to be quality. Short of the P+S, it will jump to the most expensive of any adapter, so it's got to have perfect optics and zero noise and a way to ensure that before purchase.

I say that because those of us who already spent a grand on the original Letus know that it fell short in those regards, so we'll be spending more like $3500 to get a system that's ready for pro work.

Too bad there's not an upgrade path.>>
