Questions about Canon EF lenses

Hello,

I see a lot of talk about needing to put Canon EF lenses on a still body to change the aperature.

I would like to ask if somebody can give me a definitive answer if this really works?

I use Canon DSLRs and would like to be able to use the same high end primes on both my video (Letus) and still cameras (5D & 30d).

Buying a used still body just for this task is no problem if it means I can use the lenses on all of my cameras.

Thanks!

I e-mailed Letus and they said this could be done by removing the lens while the camera is on to keep the iris set.

Nice to know for sure before buying.

Hey Tim,

Do you mean that the DSLR camera needs to remain on while you take off the lens ?

Does this expose any risks of damage to your DSLR ?

Mark

Hey Mark,

I just found this post.

Taking a lens off while the camera being on will not hurt the camera, but it might induce more dust to collect on the sensor as the charged sensor has some static effect.

If I go with Canon lenses, I will probably buy a cheap body off of Ebay just to change the lens aperature for the Letus.

This would be worth it for me to be able to use the nice glass on my stills as well.
