My first DOF adapter
 

I and a coupple of buddies just recently made a DOF adapter because we were gonna shot a short with it. we had a very close deadline, so we threw something togethere in two days. Its called CookieBox35 ;) We were very shabby with the design, and we hadnt even planned a thing. Its Agus35 inspirated.

well we are now working on a new design for more permanent use.

Anyway, here are a short clip while we were testing it.(the vignetting in the right corner is not from the GG, but from the lens itself, some kind of internal shade or something. and the gritted CD wasnt exactly perfect)

Please give some critique, any advice on further improvement?

Lots of flickering there, but should be great for some kind of shootings...

Try to increase rotating speed or change the GG.

Hi Rune ... I suppose this is a PAL avi with a european codec. Perhaps you can export/transcode to wmv for the rest of the world to view?

...or .mov if you have the time...

Jimmy: whether it is PAL or not (which really does not exist in the digital
world, but okay) does not matter in viewing footage on a computer. There
is no such thing as a "european codec".

However, there is such a thing as codecs. As stated by Rune, the files is
encoded with a codec known as XviD. You will need to get this codec (a
Google search should turn it up) before you can play that file with Windows
Media Player.

Never the less, it would indeed be good to offer some standard format like
QuickTime with a Sorenson codec as well.

How about a wintel machine ... microsoft avi?
I don't mess about so much anymore with codecs that don't ship with my NLE.
Sorry for missing the part where Rune indicated that an obscure codec was required.

sorry if i sound angry while quoting it, but i really am when i saw things like that written.... In which way a closed specs and proprietary codec can be a STANDARD ?? And what's can be more standard than MPEG4 (which Xvid is, the best MPEG4 ASP implementation so far) a _standard_ (and not a codec) defined by a group of experts/company, which give the specs for free, and that will be used widely by the broadcast world in the near future ??

And AVI is a standard too, defined by the OpenDML comittee, with open specs.
If your NLE doesn't support standards, trash the NLE editor, NOT the standards.

Now about the GG, its quite bad. gives much flickering.
Now i dont think its the speed or the voltage(3V) thats the problem. But its our bad frosting of the spinning CD thats the problem. Now, have you Agus35 guys out there had problems frosting CDs evenly. I have been thinking of buying some frosted contact paper instead of stressing with fine gritpaper.

What is your oppinion for making the best GG for the Agus35 modell?

I would stay away from the frosted GG stuff IMHO, maybe go for the Mylar or the architectural paper instead. I found the frosted GG created too big of a hotspot and you could see alot of flicker.

Whats the cam there? is it a 3 chip?

Also whats the mm/fstop of the lens,

Rune, the best and easiest way I got a frosted CD was by a tip of Filip Kovcin. You get a roll of frosted window-foil and paste that on a clear CD. You need a condenser lens too, but then again, you gain allot of light with the foil.
The cookie-box is a great design, I shouldn't change that (really), I should make aluminium supports for the camera that match the cookie-box.

It`s a very cheap 3 chip cam (panasonic nv-gs120).

Dont remember what lens we used for the different shots.

we had 3 different lenses that be borowed with different angles(from 28 to 55mm). And we used a macro ring as a mount. For closeup lens we used a lens from an old minolta slide projector.
