mini 35 for dummies

hello gang after reading too many of theese pages and trying to read them again and again to understand all the info about the mini 35 im wondering if someone could write a short page on how teh mini 35 works in very easy terms...
a huge congrats and thank you to all of those who share so much information. for some people like myself its just one step too far advanced...

where im getting lost...

is the mini 35 basically an adapter for 35mm lenses?
when people are saying theyve got a mini 35 for sale is this just the adapter or generally a whole kit?

im currently shooting an XL1. i love everything about the camera... looking at taking a next step in quality

thanks to anyone who helps out
