Attempting to Create home-made mini35
 

I have come accross a little issue I was hoping to solve here. I want to attach the front of the camera lens to the back of the "DOF machine" without having to twist the mini35 adapter itself (as it will be mounted on rails, making it impossible twist and screw in the unit) One option I had thought of was to find a spacer/ring/tube that could rotate and mount between the two. ACTUALLY, now that I think of it, this is my only option because the front of the lens has to move in order to focus. does anyone know where I could find or make this in a 48-55mm size? Thanks, Dave

Find a cheap polarising filter, and remove the glass. These have 2 parts that rotate.

Funny that you would mention it. That is exactly what I just did with my new vibrating adapter. What I am finding out though is that once the glass is removed, a "slack" appears between the two rings of my cheap 67mm Sunpak circular polarizer, and the slack is enough to misalign the adapter. So the adapter has to be already solidly attached to a rail system and aligned with the camera.

Maybe other brands would be more solidly built that the Sunpak.

Are you using this method yourself with the SG35, Wayne? If so, what polarizer do you use?

If you're an image quality fiend, I suppose this isn't the best route, but...maybe try replacing the polarized glass with a UV filter?

Well, that was my next step, however if I can find a circular polarizer that is solid enough and not too expensive, I’ll probably go for it because this is a convenient solution.

Of course, we are talking about the rings only here, without the glass.

Hi, no im not using this method on the SG35, the SG is a push fit, although its something i considered for the pro version.
