Soccer with the Letus

I've been shooting my daughter's soccer games with the Letus and XLH1.

Here's some scenes I've thrown together. I'm hoping to have some kind of edit ready at end of season for the kids.

It's a real challenge shooting a sporting event with the Letus because you cannot take your hand off the focus ring and I also use a 7" Marshall HD monitor...just couldn't shoot using the Letus without it.

I haven't had time to check this file for integrity so I hope it plays okay. It's a little over 200mb and is approximately 3 mins long.

Pretty amazing. Really looks like great Super16, bordering on older 35mm.

Steven; What lens were you using with the Letus? The sharpness seems down slightly from your previous material, is this caused by the Letus or am I not seeing the same results that you are?
Is your daughter #10? Nice that you got her making a goal.

Barry, the lesser sharpness you are seeing is probably as a result of very challenging moving targets and focus was not spot on. The look you get when using these adapters is soft by nature so it can never compete with the stock lens. Also, unless the back focus is precise, the softness can be pronounced. I think the back focus for these shots was a smidge off.

I'm using a 100mm Nikon f2.8, not as sharp as the 50mm so that, I'm sure, is also a contributing factor but, hell, I bought the lens on eBay for $18 !

My daughter is actually the blonde talking to number 10 earlier in the edit :)

Steven; I wasn't trying to say it doesn't look amazing, it does. I am wondering about the Letus as opposed to other lens adaptors. XL 1 solutions has an adaptor that allows the use of Canon EOS lenses, but with a much lower magnification than the standard Canon XL to EOS adaptor. However it would be great to have access to PL mount cine lenses on the H1.

Can you adjust the back focus on the adapter, how accurate is it? Thanks in advance!

Steven Dempsey October 27th, 2006 02:29 PM

Sorry, need to offline this file for a while. I'll be uploading a replacement soon.

As for the back focus, it's very accurate.

Steven, thank you, what I wanted to ask, if XL35 setup has a back focus adjustment lever/knob??

Steven Dempsey October 27th, 2006 03:39 PM

It looks and feels just like the focus ring on any 35mm Nikon lens.

Okay, file is back up
