Possibility of an HDV Camcorder w/35mm functionality built-in?
 

Hey there. I know this probably sounds a bit far-fetched, but I was just wondering what you all think.

Do you think there's a possibility that one of the top camera manufacturers will recognize the attraction and potential of these 35mm adapters and design a camcorder with that functionality built-in?

What I mean is, might Canon, for example, release an HDV camcorder within which the optics are focused perfectly on a GG, and would allow compatibility with Canon EOS or FD still lenses?

Just going out on a limb here, but it seems to me that it would be completely possible, not too expensive, and would really have a potentially huge market. How likely or unlikely do you think this is?

I think the RED has been designed along similar concept lines, and if it's successful enough (particularly for us in its less expensive pocket camera line), then there's no reason to assume that the majors won't be following along to cash in.

The other thing to do, of course, is to make a HDV digital camera back or film magazine back and use the front end of existing cameras (e.g. the Kodak DCS cameras, used by NASA and built off the back of a Nikon F5).

But either of these methods would mean that they'd end up only selling a part of a camera to you (they'd have to do a deal with the manufacturer of the other parts), and why would they allow you to buy that if they've already got you buying entire new cameras every five years anyway?


Nah, probably the new EOS HD system is awhile away - but they've got to finish selling all those nifty new XH A1s first...
