The whole 35mm Adapter Bundle?
 

Ok, being on the site, day in and day out, searching for the complete tutorials for DIY things

Why not collaborate and create one AWESOME 35mm adapter, Follow Focus, Matte Box and rail system... write a tutorial for it all and post on online... i mean say for all of it you spend 300 dollars... thats better than spending 700 for a whole set-up

and just have it a PDF online on most sites...

i know that hundreds of people would thank you...

....Huh? I don't get your idea. Create a tutorial for a good 35mm adapter? There are many designs that work well, with plans floating around already. Perhaps they aren't as readily apparent to you since most discussions pertain to pre-bought adapters. But they're there.

DIY Matte box isn't really feasible. Same with rail system. Not when you can buy a solid one for ~$150. FF...meh.

What's this $300 vs. $700 investment? Nothing is that cheap. A good adapter + FF + Matte box + rails is going to put you out $1000+ easy.

what i mean, is for someone to bring out a bonafide working tutorial for all the DIY projects people want... like have the Jet Set Adapter with someones working Follow Focus, and matte box tutorials, put it all in a PDF, instead of all the parts scattered over 300 different pages

You should know if you want a matte box just to look cool, or to actually hold filters and block direct lighting. If the latter, then you should consider actually buying one. I wouldn't trust my $100 3x3's to some rivets and sheet metal from Home Depot.

There is a price point of a decently-made product where it ceases to be effective to try to build your own and suffer the quality difference.

I believe it totally depends on what kind of impression you want to make at the set. My adapter won't look very professional, but I'm on a tight budget.

I've bought the vibrating device VH-57 från Daniel at jetsetmodels.info, an EE-S screen and a Canon FD 1.4 with some cosmetical issues (optically: perfect). With an ugly plastic box and some other small details like screws, a piece of wood to mount it on and some electrical stuff, it won't be more expensive than $200.

Maybe people will be doubtful when the see the adapter, but I'm totally convinced they will change opinion when they see the result.

I would love a compilation of tutorials, since I've been researching for over a week through pages and couldn't yet get to know if its better a vibrating-GG or a rotating-GG Adapter (or what kind of GG should I use), or if a Sony pd150 would need a macro glass to work with an adapter, etc.
Hope this thread grows with tutorials and suggestions of finished and working DIY projects.

I think it might be a good time to state a slightly unpleasant truth. Lunches rarely come free of obligation of some form, be it simply from the expectation of a warm glow of kudos and apprecation to the prospect of some work in the future.

There are those who put in the time and effort of research and design. Many of the efforts replicate in new form, already patented ideas and already registered designs.

There is considerable furthur effort to be expended by individual home designers in reverse engineering a lot of their hands-on design work just to be able to publish.

To publish a .pdf they have to go out and aquire Acrobat or another third party software. To give Acrobat or other third party software something to publish, there must be hand drawn design scanned, or an Autocad or similar software drawing created.

Then instruction sets have to be written and carefully checked.

There is the legal liability issue to be considered. For example, there have been instances of litigation by aggrieved individuals who have sought relief for claimed loss due to use of free software, which was not made available to deliver concealed malintent.

The whole alternative adaptor movement is a potential minefield of legal danger should any of the commercial players whose patents are infringed decide to swing the whip.

One of the players has been generous in publishing tech and operator info as .pdf downloads and fairly friendly to me but I would not want to push things.

A publication could be deemed to be a incitement by a person to another to breach a patent or copyright and produced as a defense or applied as a succeeding claim against another.

All up, a disincentive to publish, certainly to me. Life is complicated enough.

For some, the adaptor game happens in spare time, probably at expense of sane lifestyle choices and attention to responsibilities to family and relationships.

I am happy to share much of my knowledge and experiences of the moment but to be quite frank, to expend a lot of time and effort in gathering, validating and collating a collective recorded resource which spans nearly four years of posts is beyond my available personal resource.

Any enthusiasm I may have in sharing for an open-source movement in home-made adaptors must be tempered by the more practical needs of the here and now, such as the rent, the repayments, the rags on the back and the balanced sustainance of the body, soul, mind and spirit.

In the chart of my life, this little hobby of mine must be a very thin wedge of the pie. For most other sane people, I guess it is the same.
