Video tutorial - Building vibrating DoF adapter added!

Hi guys,

I had a little spare time and did a video tutorial on how to build a basic vibrating DoF adapter in 5 easy steps!

That should help those people who needs some basic information and dont want to go through thousands of posts.

If someone has new ideas to implement in that tutorial just mail me.

You can download the video-tutorial from my homepage.
See the tutorials section. And of course its all for free!!!

have fun
Daniel

If someone is interested I searched for the parts and prices in ebay that you will need to build this dof adapter.

Here are some actual prices from ebay:

2x 10,- (Macro-extension tubes)
http://cgi.ebay.com/Macro-Extension-...QQcmdZViewItem

2x 6,- (55mm UV-Filter HMC Multicoated)
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Hoya-HMC-Mul...QQcmdZViewItem

1x 40,- (Canon Ee-A screen)
http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-Focusing-S...QQcmdZViewItem

1x 60,- (VH-57 + new black mamba motor)
http://www.jetsetmodels.info/vibrating.htm

1x 1,- (coiled phonecable)
http://cgi.ebay.com/12-TELEPHONE-COI...QQcmdZViewItem

1x 8,- (Nikon to Canon EOS adapter)
http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-Lens-to-Ca...QQcmdZViewItem

Parts from ebay without shipping: USD 141,-

For lens try a 50mm Nikon 1:1.4 (ebay approx. USD 200,-)
For beginning you can also try a 50mm 1:1.8 (ebay approx. USD 50-100,-)

Have fun

hi Daniel,

thanks for the list!

what the better screen : nikon F3 D or the Canon Ee-A ?
please tell your experiences ;)

thanks

Daniel Schaumberger June 26th, 2007 10:53 AM

Hi Robert,

personally I prefer the Canon Ee-A screen because its much brighter and you can use it also indoor with little lighting. The downside of this screen is that you can see some weird patterns in the highlights of the footage when the sun is pointing into your lens the same happens also with the Ee-S.

The Nikon D is ok but its not that bright and hard to get nowadays.
Downside of this screen dust can enter between its pcx lens and matte screen. Then you have to take it appart and clean it.

I worked with the D screen for a while, it does work and has solid diffusion properties. The Canon Ee screens don't diffuse the correct way, in my opinion.

Daniel, many thanks for the time and effort. It looks great.
With your i-35HD- why are you not using an achromat?

Agustin Vrljicak July 10th, 2007 11:15 PM

Great website man. Thanks for the effort.
Had you tried the adaptor with a Sony pd150? Does it work OK with or without the achromat?
