Universal Follow Focus?

I'm looking to buy a follow focus but I've been having trouble doing some research on them. I was wondering if there was a unit for sale that would work with not only the adjustable lens gears that are sold by Redrock Micro or SGpro that allow you to place them on SLR lenses but will also work with most industry standard film/video camera lenses so that when I do have the opportunity to use the better equipment I'll have my own FF. I was told to look at the pitch of the follow focus gear but I have no idea what the industry standard is.

Thanks!

Standard gear pitch is 0.8. Almost every FF on the market is 0.8.

Also known as 32 pitch.

RedRock has a new one coming out that is supposed to be much better in terms of backlash then there original design.

That is correct.

I bought a used cavision and it wasn't 0.8 mod but Cavision does sell a 0.8 mod drive gear. Cavision also carry a 0.45 and 0.65 mod so check before you buy.

Looks like I'll probably be going with RedRock then! Although I may wait for the SGPro FF before I make any final decisions. Thanks.

I use a redrock micro FF. I really have no complaints. It works on my XL2 lenses, as well as my Fujinons. Backlash isn't an issue, at least not with the FF i bought.

RR FF is shipping

FYI, the improved Redrock Follow Focus has been shipping for a while now. The gearbox update is also available for existing users that wish to upgrade. The simplest way to distinguish between the two revisions is to give the focus knob a good spin. If it spins freely, it's the older design (latest revision is dampened). For what it's worth, I use the Redrock with my 35mm adapter, and love it.
