View Full Version : Stablizers - Speed Tolerance?

Has anyone used a stablizer (steadicam, glidecam, etc) with a vehicle mount? I'd like to know just how fast a vehicle could theoretically go before the stabilizer's capabilities are compromised.

I realize many factors are involved in real-world usage - wind resistance, secured mounting, road conditions, etc... Does anyone have experience with this?

Any kind of wind will force the sled to "weathervane" and upset its stability, that applies whether you're standing still or in a moving vehicle.

As long as you keep the sled out of the slipstream you should be OK.

The only other factor to be aware of is the vertical travel limits of the arm. A large bump could force the arm to the point of maximum deflection and spoil the shot.
