Wow, that is something I would like to see in my pocket,, lets hope that they have worked out all the problems and improvements we have talked about many times here, and that it does 720p25 and p50 at highest data-rate as well as 1080. Now to compare against eh AVCHD Pocket cameras from Panasonic.

(yeah, I know it's not the greatest form factor for an professional, and the price is high for the pocket, but it looks good).

Looks like they did listen. Check out the lens size and aperture. The black camera looks good, through the lens should aesthetically be more centred. Unlike what the engadget article claims, I see no mention of 1080p, but 1080i, but the good news is that it does do 720p, at the minimum recommendation for our level of use, and does 60p at the same rate as 1080i. I would prefer 18mb/s, but 12mb/s H264 is doable for me.

It is ironic that the good looking black version of the cam appears above the Redone article in engadget. Sort of looks like an Red Pocket.

Cmos, good listening, from outside Sanyo. Sanyo is the major manufacturer of small cameras on the market fro other brands, so they have sensor manufacturing ability. So makes me, wonder, Micron, Foveon, Cypress IBIS/smal, Altasens? Despite hopes, I guess it will be Micron, which with bigger aperture might be actually better in low light than HD1. If this has altitude extension (Micron and Cypress) we could be in for an ride (but an low noise high efficiency alternative also good). There are other manufacturers.

There is direct hard drive backup, even USB. Can anybody translate if ti is only as backup after shooting?

Wireless microphone, now these guys are really getting to it.

Forgot to mention has HDMI.

An AVCHD camera could theoretically be made better than this (24mb/s top, 5.1 channel etc) and I am waiting on an few cameras to compare, like the Panasonic AVCHD shoulder camera, but they are not here, and Sanyo is! I trust previouse issues have been largely sorted out, so good job on the camera Sanyo. Welcome to the next level.

Yeah! Who knows, as long as the performance is suitable I can work around other issues. I would like to see how it goes on the bike, but think 19mb/s is better. BTW, FFV has some low compressed SD recording stuff now.

Those specs put the DMX-HD1000 in direct competition with Panasonic’s HDC-HD7. I would pick the Panasonic over the Sanyo because of the advanced stabilizer but the 720 60p mode of the Sanyo is very tempting.

Neat! I knew they would get there eventually with 1080i pocket cameras but I didn't expect it so soon after the HD2, which was a big improvement already. Looks like a nice 16:9 LCD there too. I almost feel bad that I already bought an HV20, but I needed Mini-DV for archive purposes, so what's a guy to do?

I couldn't tell from the translation, how much is this model going to be?

Looks promising. Can't play it at the moment, but from the picture on the front. One thing I notice is the break light on the car looks pinkish, like HC1 did. Otherwise it might look better (but was that frame from the video or an still).

An question, playing the H264 footage. My present computer won't hack it, what would you suggest to download the h264 and convert (free software) to lossless to view?

I just streamed the file on my computer and never downloaded it. The image is from the video itself but the color on the jpg is a little bit off. It looks redder on the video.

One thing I noticed is that the jpeg is 640X360 and just by doubling that, its 1280X720. So basically the original video isn’t 1920x1080i but rather 1280x720p.

720 60p and 1080 60i are both confirmed. I earnestly don’t think it will have 24p on either 720 or 1080 but the US specs may be different.

I’m very glad that Sanyo is putting an aggressive price point in this camcorder because it forces the AVCHD camcorders to be priced lower.

Since it does 60p, it will be interesting for my onboard shooting and use cinematools for the overcranked effect.
My concern is with HD1, the video was not crisp unless the video was shot very close up.

I went to Yodobashi today but did not see anything happening at the Sanyo Xacti Section.

And just started to play back the Clark's video clip... clip looks great for the cam in that price. but the fast panning from the singer's feet up to his face shows that it won't be good for my onboard purposes. I wonder how the video would look when I record 60p but shutter speed being 1/30, would that help compression quality?

Edit: the onboard shot was clever on the Clark's video that the shot is covered mostly with the girl and her car, the moving area is small. If the whole onboard shot looks like that, I would buy it.

The video was shot in 1920 x 1080i. What you see posted is the Compressor conversion to something that is easily digestable (in this specific case, "H.264 for iPod").

It was an exciting shoot- the images generated by the cameras are amazing. Along with over 9 hours of footage for the main video, we have about the same amount for a behind-the-scenes piece we are completing as we speak.

I came to that conclusion because I sometimes see people convert their clips that way.

Like Serge, I would also want to see the RAW file and hopefully you’re not under some contract with a TV station, because if that was the case than I’d understand why you wouldn’t post it. I think if you do show it, then several seconds is fine just incase it’ll take to long to upload the whole thing.

Out of all the camcorders that were released recently, I would have expected 720 60p as one of the options in the JVC HD7 but that mode never made it in. For this camcorder having it is very significant because the next step up is the Panasonic HVX200.

Now that Sanyo have the perfect strictly consumer camcorder, I think they should also make a Prosumer model with a focusing ring and a higher bit rate.

I really like this camcorder, it looks really cool also, although I am looking for one that also can make a sub-4mbit/s VBR Mpeg4/mp3 AVI 720p internet-ready recording and that would also be able to record at the same time at full bitrate 1080p.
