I know many have had a similar problem with a crack on the inside "L" shaped housing of their viewfinders and I was wondering how much it costs to fix that tiny piece of plastic?

There are a couple of threads about it from last year. I've had 2 of them crack from daily use.

Have a look here (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showpost.php?p=557859&postcount=3).

How much for a new one? Do I have to order through JVC?

I don't know. I had mine replaced under warranty. I'm looking at at a cracked view finder right now on an HD-100. It does not affect anything and there is a ribbon cable that runs up it to connect to the viewfinder LCD.

Mine has been cracked for months and I was worried about it intitially but after I had it replaced and they gave me the part, it's easy to see that the replacement will crack just as easily and it's not worth the expense.

perhaps the eyepiece should be strapped or wrapped in something to prevent this?

You may notice from the supplied picture that there is absolutly no reinforcement to that piece (in the design). It's not a question of if it will break but when. Luckily it doesn't break all the way (ever) and the ribbon cable is secure and not in jeopardy.

I recommend just living with it cracked.

Can't you put some of that plastic-weld super glue on the crack?

Perhaps if the pice comes off you can put some inside as well which will ad a little reinforcement.

There's also a foam type glue that swells up a tiny dab of that inside might work to give it some added strength.

So far the crack doesn't affect anything and replacing it just means it will eventually get cracked again in a few months. I was just curious since this has been a common problem.

Hi guys,

I'm on my second crack, and out of warranty.

Gorilla Glue works great!

Yes, I think that's the glue that expands, isn't it? It's amazing.
