This may be of no use to anyone..but its got me excited(doesnt take much!)
I bought a used canon hv20(£450 on ebay) so i could use it as a deck and static camera for interviews etc(or the other way round)..anyway its great.
Ive been messin about today with a 20inch pc monitor(hdmi-dvi cable) and it plays hv20 fine..so i connected firewire cable to my h1..alas no realtime monitoring(except on hv20 screen with huge delay)...but i pressed record on h1 and...it records h1 footage to hv20 from xlh1!!..goodbye to my firestore(i only use it to make sure i get an extra copy of important footage)
Someones probably already done this but i cant find it elsewhere so hence the post.

made me happy :-)

I've been thinking that the HG model (hard drive version) coming out soon may even serve better as replacement for the Firestore, if it has similar capabilities, and the codec can be relied on.

would probably make less noise too.

Craig another option is the smaller lighter hv-10 which has no problem taking in my HDV footage. And with some strong Velcro can mount easily on to the back of the camera.

Taking the use of the HV20 for support of other Canon cams such as the H1 and XHG1 a step further....

Could you shoot HDV with H1, A1, XHG1 and run the tapes thru the HV20 out it's HDMI port and ingest thru a Blackmagic HDMI Intensity card? and also to digitally monitor on an inexpensive HDMI large screen - bypassing analog component capture/monitor or firewire lag and lip synch issues?
