Hmmm - bit concerned that I just upgraded from v7 to v8 and I paid $234.95 this morning!

What did I do wrong?! More to the point, how can I resolve it!!??

Call customer service and tell them what happened.

I usually takes just a little time for the initial "cheaper" price to become know/made active.

Thanks Edward, I will. Just had a quick peek over at the Sony forums and there are a couple of gripes on a similar theme.

Sigh - only US numbers! If the speed of Sony's call centres is anything like Virgin or Vodafone over here, this international call will end up costing me more than the hoped for refund!!

I've opted for an email instead.

Hi,

I fell in the same trap, placed the order at 249,95USD. I decided to call Sony - albeit some expenses callin overseas from Finland. Fortunately, the complete call took only 5 minutes! A very helpful Lady apologized, cancelled my order and asked me to reorder using the new price. The whole thing took 10 minutes. Now I am awaitng my boxed 149,95USD upgrade VP8!!!

I would say that Sony's customer service is in good order. The same you cannot say about the sales dept. They should have started with this special bargain price directly when the gates opened ..... ;) At least it would have saved lots of trouble on both sides of the fence.

Christian, your brave action inspired me!

I called them direct and they have credited my credit card with the $100.

Painless. In fact, one of the cleanest customer services contacts I've had for a while. Well done Sony.

(As you say, shouldn't have happened in the first place!)

Oh yes, and after I made the call I found a UK customer service number!

Sigh . . .

For non-US based sufferers!

Note that the European numbers put you through to the US location so you need to be calling during their office hours, not yours. At time of writing they are still open for business.

Does that mean I could buy VegasŪ 8 Movie Studio + DVD Platinum Edition (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665225466&tab=Features) for $129.95 and then upgrade for $149.95 for a grand total of $279.90 - i.e., get the fully boxed product for less than half the list price?

For a current non-user of Vegas, that would represent a steal (and something of a boo-boo on Sony's part). Where's my credit card?

umm... no.

"Upgrade any professional version of Vegas (Vegas Pro, Vegas Audio, or Vegas Video, Vegas, or Vegas+DVD) to Vegas Pro 8.

Pricing excludes Vegas LE"

It looks to me like that excludes all Vegas Movie Studio versions for the limited time offer of $150 upgrade..

However, there is an upgrade path available to Vegas Movie Studio users on this page
https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/shopping/item.asp?PID=485&cid=111&disp=1 for about $300.

Sorry John but you're not that lucky.
The page I linked to says:

Upgrade to Vegas Pro from Vegas

Upgrade any professional version of Vegas (Vegas Pro, Vegas Audio, or Vegas Video, Vegas, or Vegas+DVD) to Vegas Pro 8.

The other (https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/shopping/item.asp?PID=485&cid=111&disp=1) upgrade page says:

Upgrade to Vegas Pro from Vegas Movie Studio

Upgrade any version of Vegas Movie Studio, Screenblast Movie Studio, VideoFactory, or Vegas LE software to Vegas Pro software.

That price is $284.95 download or $299.95 boxed.

Aha! Thanks, Mike and Seth.

I wasn't sure because though it lists the ones you mention it also says LE isn't valid. Odd to state that but not explicitly mention Movie Studio (which Sony bill has having "professional level power").

Still, getting Movie Studio (not with the DVD stuff):

$79.95 + $299.95 = $379.90 which saves quite a few pennies.

John.

First time hearing of LE (Limited Edition?), does the above mean you can upgrade from even older editions than 7.0 as well ... like upgrade from an upgrade? Has anyone tried?

Don't know about LE (it may be some OEM-version of Vegas, bundled with camera, or sumthin like that) but traditionally all older Vegas versions have been eligible for an upgrade for the stated price. So if you decide to skip versions (as I did, went from 5 to 7 directly) you won't lose any money on upgrade.

This is one reason I love Vegas. And also the initial upgrade price during first 30 or so days after the release has always been a bargain.

I bought a copy of Vegas 4 on eBay for $57 upgraded to 7 for $135 (when 7 shipped) and then 8 for $135(Yesterday). My understanding is if you have a Full (not LE or Studio) not Bundled version of Vegas you can get the $135 upgrade. But they track the upgrades. I tried my Vegas 4 serial number yesterday and was told it had been used which was true I used it for 7. So I used the serial number in the $15 box they shipped me for 7, not the one in "My Software".

That's a great price.

Does anyone know how long it will last?

I'm wondering if my single core aging Pentium (1 gig ram) is up to the task.

Brian, per Sony's email the upgrade promotion is good through October 31st.

I have V6, and DO NOT have DVD architect. If I get the upgrade, do I get DVDA as well? The upgrade page makes it seem so.

You do. Bundling DVD Architect with Vegas started with the release of Vegas 7/DVDA 4.

Hi,

Referring to my cancelation and re-entering my order:

As the title says, everything SEEMED to go smooth. I was convinced that my first order (at the full price) was cancelled, since the order disappeared from my account pages, and the serial number was freed for a new entry using the same.

What actually happened is that Sony now have sent me TWO copies, one for the full price, the other for the discounted price - both now in transit!!! I now contacted Sony customer service this time by email - no reply yet :(

It seems that the helpful lady just deleted my serial number from the registry, not my actual order...

Lets see how they are going to sort this out... Can I refuse from accepting the Fedex shipment and ask them to take it back to the sender? And how about refunding my credit card? I hope I get soon an answer, needless to say, I'm upset.
So to the rest of you - BEWARE. Crediting 100USD IS the right thing to do, not to reorder, Sonys system is not compatible for that kind of operations...

I keep you posted about the outcome...

Regards,

Christian

They simply gave me a credit of a $100 on my Visa. Maybe you were one of the first ones and by the time it got to me they had worked out what they would do. It was all sorted out for me in about a minute or two.

I don't think there is any reason to bothered by it. It can be sorted easily enough.

I'm about ready to jump to Vegas 8 and I'm tempted to check the "Add Cinescore" button since it's a good time to get that software. I've looked at the Cinescore page but have not been able to figure out what themes ship with the package?

Does Cinescore ship with everything listed on this page?

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/showproduct.asp?PID=1013&FeatureID=8527
or is this an example of what the various theme packs (that you buy) contain?

It is an example. Cinescore comes bundled with themes "Incredible Vistas" and "Adrenaline Surge". Good offer, though.

Those two theme packs are extra to all the ones that come stock with Cinescore.

I'm wondering if my single core aging Pentium (1 gig ram) is up to the task.Well V8 Pro just breathed new life into my old P4 2.4Ghz with 1GB RAM. The playback is much smoother. Very nice. Editing Cineform on my lowly old system on V8 is very peppy. Renders are still slow, but I have a new Quadcore to take care of that.

Thank you. It didn't really show that until you put it in your cart. Once it was in my cart, something took over my credit card and I ended up ordering both products!

I bought Vegas 8 yesterday.

Took about 10 mins on-line to buy Movie Studio, get the serial number and then buy the upgrade for Vegas 8 Pro. Got the download version + separate manuals etc.

I'm very impressed with Vegas - especially for half the price!
