What preset could I setup in FCP 5.1 with clips of these properties:

That is the property of clips produced from the Aiptek GO HD camcorder. I'd like a sequence preset that would allow for straight imports into the time line w/o rendering each clip.

I believe the Aiptek's are AVCHD (Or just h.264?)? In which case, your footage would need to be converted first. FCP cannot use AVCHD footage on the timeline.

Hmm, I'm confused now. I thought Final Cut Pro 5.1 (or 6 for that matter) wouldn't even touch MPEG 4, H.264, or anything of the sort. But I was inspired by your idea, I went and created a preset that would conform to an H.264 trailer I downloaded from Apple. I threw the H.264 video on the timeline and could edit without having to render! Why then, can't FCP edit AVCHD if you made some sort of preset for it? Isn't AVCHD just H.264?
Anyway, back to your point, is there a way you could post a raw clip on here so I could try and work on a preset?

Well, it says right there in your screenshot that it's AVCHD (under Format). You'll need Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 to transfer and capture and I believe it only works on Intel Macs.

For the record h.264, AVCHD and MPEG-4 Part 10 are exactly the same thing.
No wonder there is so much confusion!

So if I can edit a H.264 trailer downloaded from Apple, why can't I edit AVCHD?

Steve, I downloaded a clip from another user to try it out, and I found a setting that works, although the audio still needs to be rendered.

Give it a shot and tell me if it works for you. I just don't think Final Cut Pro is a big fan of compressed audio. It doesn't take too long to render that audio though.
