I have a shoot this weekend on the HVX that will be recording HD footage to a Firestore device. Any audio issues I should know about? Will it drift? Do I use the regular XLR inputs on the camera, or are the separate ones on the drive?

Audio is exactly the same as always. No drift, no additional connectors, etc.

Only thing is, if you're recording in the 720pN "simulation" mode of the FS-100, you won't hear audio when you try to play the clips back. It will have recorded the audio, but for some reason the FS-100's playback system can't play back pN-mode audio. So you'll have to wait until you can import the clips into a computer before you can hear the audio.

(and, if using the 720pN simulation mode, be aware that it won't record audio for any off-speed frame rates, so you only get audio if you shoot at 24fps in 720/24p mode, or at 30fps in 720/30p mode).

Old post I know, but I want to revisit this. What is 720pN "simulation" mode, and is there another mode that we can use that doesn't have the audio playback issue?

when you shoot in a pN mode it doesn't record the additional frames that you would get in the standard 720 60p varicam format(which the hvx shoots at in a regular P mode). and then when you ingest the card into your nle it removes to duplicate frames. when shooting in the pN mode it records it in actaul frames, not adding a pulldown. with the firestore you usually want to shoot on the pN setting as it saves a lot of space on the drive. but if space isnt an issue then just shoot at the regular 720 24p, but then in post you may have to remove the pulldown, depending on your nle.
