I will do a concert movie soon, with XDCam IMX.
We have U2´s Rattle & Hum as inspiration.
Which plugins do you think I should use?
What about grain?
Leach bypass?
I use FinalCut Studio 2.
And I have today Magic Bullet.
Do you have any other advice.

They shot that on high-grain 16mm. Anyway, you want to increase the contrast and add a whole lot of grain. Plus a bit of halation, from what I can remember (diffuse the highlights).
I'm sure your tools are enough; just practice using them.

The "auto-art" setting is a great starting point in MB.
I have found the FX to render less than the preview so you want to adjust it a little heavyer than you want the final to be.

Yes they shot it both on 16 and 35. The concert on 35 and the behind - the documentary shoot on 16.
Halation? I never heard that one - do you mean white diffusion.
MB is good. Do you think MB is good for graining?

Halation is from Silver Halide, a chemical used in the developing process, I think....

If you're using AE, then just desaturate your footage, use levels to crush the blacks, or contrast to increase the whites, and then add grain to the desired amount.
You don't really need any more plug ins than what is available in AE.

EDIT: I just saw that you're using FCS2. The plug ins should be the same as in AE. Or import your footage into Color, and do it all there. Just tweak until you like.

I purchased the new Magic Bullet Looks a few weeks ago and I'm loving it.
It can produce some really nice black and white looks.

AE internal plug ins are excellent. MB Looks is a good and easy tool. For advance CC I would recommend Synthetic Aperture Color Finesse.

I heard that you can help get the film noir look by using a red filter on your footage before you convert it to b&w.
Might be wrong but it's what I was told.
