A commonly praised DVD burner in this community, seems to be the Pioneer AO4 and the newer AO5. I have not yet purchased a burner, so I can't give you any first-hand experience.

From everything I have heard, the Pioneer Ao4-5 is the way to go. It will be the one I finally buy.

I use a Sony DRU500a. It has been replaced in between by the DRU510A. It writes +R(RW) and -R(-RW).
I am very satisfied with it and it has been praised by most reviews.

Supposedly the Pioneer A06 is due soon and adds "+" media capabilities.

I use the HP300e and have no real complaints other than most burning software is not able to detect it's higher burning speeds yet. It just came out a few months back. It comes with garbage for software, of course, but anyone reading this forum will probably have or obtain professional authoring and burning wares.

It's "+" only and I haven't found a DVD player that it has NOT worked in yet.

See my response to this thread (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10601).

Pioneer A06 should be out this month if all goes well. Besides
the Sony and the multiformat A06 there is also a multiformat
Nec burner.

I would go multiformat burner if you buy a new one. See the
thread I mention above.
