Hi folks,

is there any way of copying whole plug-in chains from one Vegas file to another without manually saving each plug-uin preset and then loading each one up into the new track (which is rather tedious). I know I can duplicate tracks within a Veg file but can't duplicate into another Veg file...

My specific usage is a phoneline effect which has two EQs, compression, reverb, distortion, etc which i want to duplicate in another vegas file.

You should be able to save them as a preset just like you can with video FX.

Open the Event FX and click the Plug-In Chain button.
It's the green + symbol to the far right of your FX chain.
This brings up the Plug-in Chooser - Audio Event FX window.
Click Save As, give it an appropriate name and click OK.
The next time you want to use this particular FX, open up the Event FX window, click on Filter Packages, look for the one you created and select it.

Note: I'm not at my Vegas computer right now
This was for creating custom Video FX presets so some of the terms may be incorrect but it'll give you the right idea.

Also the Sony Creative Preset Manager will let you export and import preset chains so you can use them across multiple machines and/or programs

Many thanks, Mike and Gian, there's always one tab you don't try and in this case it was pretty obvious: the 'Save As' tab in the plug-in chooser window... The Preset Manager looks like a useful bit of software too.

You could also:

!) Open up an instance of Vegas for the target project, and another for the source project

2) Select and copy the clip you want to take the chain from

3) Select the target clip with the right mouse button and select "past event attributes".

Bear in mind this may alter pan and volume settings as well.
