I've read some articles saying that premiere pro 2.0 doesn't really take full advantage of quad processors. Quads are not that expensive here in Spain and I was thiking about getting one, but after reading these articles I thought I better post here first ;-) Any thoughts? Personal experiences?

cheers,

Rafa

I moved from an Intel Core2 Duo 6600 to a Core2 Quad 6600. I'm using PPro CS3 and cut my render times almost in half. I didn't time anything on PPro 2 before I made the switch, so I don't have numbers to compare, but PPro does not take advantage of the Quad core like PPro 3 does. When I render in PPro 3 all four cores run at 95-100%. Doing the same thing in PPro2 I get 45-50% usage from the CPUs.

With the recent improvements in multithreading in CS3, you should see significant gains by increasing the number of CPU cores in your system. I have not bought a quad core system yet, but plan to do so before the end of the year. With prices as they are, their is little reason not to go for the quad core options.
