I know about the camera needing help indoors but I am not happy with the outdoor quality on a sunny day either and I need to know if im doing anything wrong. The colors in the clip either look washed out or very over saturated. This is on all auto settings SP quality 4:3 This sample is DV AVI type I

The ZR is a great camera for what you paid. But.. yeah... you get what you paid for. I doubt you did too much wrong. The camera just isn't all that amazing.

i would expect that for low lit situations but outside with good light I had heard and read that the video quality was great

Great for... $300? Yep.

I have the ZR600. I think it's great. But it's not pro quality, regardless of the situation.

im not expecting pro quality but that footage looks worse than my 9 year old Video8 Sony handycam

That's because low-cost analog usually trumps low-cost digital.

But I have to agree that the results you're getting from this ZR are par for the course.

The best feature of that camcorder is its low price...

Eaves, I think the best thing to do is to take it back and replace it with another camera. OK your pocket will loose some money there but at least your mind will gain from experiencing the satisfaction that you can produce now better video looking clips. This time though TEST the camera before you buy it.
