In order to make a progressive scan DVD from footage I shot in 24pA (w/ DVX100)and removed pull-down via Vegas 4.0c- Do I have to keep the workflow in Vegas+DVD in order to get a progressive scan DVD. In other words is Vegas' encoder do something special in order for DVD players to play the footage as progressive scan? Can other encoders do the same thing (ie. Procoder or Cleaner)?

Nearly all footage on a dvd is progressive scan, unless it specifically came from an orginated interlaced source.

If you give a dvd authoring program, such as dvd architect a progressive scan file, the authoring program will add flags into the video stream on the dvd, to tell the dvd player which pull down to initiate and do the interlacing for you.

BUT if you pop this same dvd into a progressive scan dvd player or a pc, it will simply ignore those flags and play it in progressive scan.

At least that is my understanding, shoot me if i am wrong.

To my knowledge it's DVD Architech which adds the flags for the DVD player to remove pull-down. I'm just wondering if other encoders do this?

sorry i should learn to read questions better, to be honest i am not sure, but i can't why any other program wouldn't do the same as dvd architect.

Progressive scan is something different then 24 frames a second.
DVD's have no difficult at all with progressive material at 25
(PAL) or 30 (NTSC) frames a second. Creating a 24 frames per
second DVD is a whole different ballgame and requires a
special authoring of the disc. Check to see if your authoring
application supports it. There was a great article on that a while
back but I can't seem to find it at this moment... Sorry bout that.
