Hi. I hope this is the right forum to post this question. I gonna buy a new editing computer. And because iam useing the jvc gyhd100. I want to buy one for HDV.

Then i planing to buy a Dell 24 monitor, And a jvc DT-V20L1D monitor to use for color correcting and monitoring.

Dose this setup work or should i think diffrent somewhere.

Yes, even though the Woodcrest CPU is a bit older and Clovertown and Harpertown are the more recent ones, Dell does not give you that option. It might be worth adding a third disk to the system, but not from Dell. Buy it elsewhere and install it yourself, unless you want throw your money down the drain.

You mean i should buy the computer elsewhere or just the disk elsewhere ?

Just the disk. Dell has great offers for standard configurations but if you change any of the default options, you pay dearly.

The Quadro 3400 is a good card although it is limited to only 256 MB. Personally I would opt for a nVidia 8800 GT with 512 MB and save some money. For monitors I would opt for 2 20+" LCD monitors. Samsung 203B or 204B come to mind.

Oki but can i color correct good at that monitor. Just so you now i whanted the jvc monitor both for wokring monitor and color correcting monitor. And of course use it as a field monitor. But is that just waste of money

For color correction you need either a good CRT monitor or a pro LCD monitor, like the JVC DT-V 20L1D (not full HD) or DT-V 24L1D (full HD), but they are expensive. Calculate around € 4K for the 20" version and € 5K for the 24" version. This is in addition to your normal editing PC monitors.

Jonus, I'd go to the Dell site and go thru the options and understand what they are offfering with the 490...

The video card they suggest is the 3500 and its a very nice card but the
4600 is a very very nice card.. but notice the price of each...

The hard drives are a mixed bag... if you want the computer to zoom, get either the 10K or 15K drives... at least two matched internal drives...
I'm using dual 10K 160 internal and use several different external setups...
( I have the 390 )

The 490 is nice as it has the capability for dual processors....

I'd go with the fastest Quad processor, then later when the prices drop you can update with anothe Quad processor... giving you 8 cores...

Memory?? 4gb and your choice of Vista or XP... I have one of each...
the Vista machine was a struggle at first but the software has settled
down much better now that most software is compliant...

Don't forget to order the firewire port

Oh yea, wait till you see how nice that computer is... built like a tank, easy,easy to work on... top notch quality
