Hey all, I was reading some previous threads because I want to build a new computer that can go "beyond the call of duty" of HDV editing.

From previous threads, I compiled these pieces to the puzzle:

Make sure you've got firewire.
Make sure you've got plenty of USB 2.0 plugs for adding additional external hard drives....as this space fills fast!
Which NLE will you use as some work better with certain processor types than others etc....I'm no expert on this but I'm sure others can help here.

Go for a big tower, not a midi tower. That limits you too much in disk drives and you want to avoid using USB or fire wire externals. Also if you are considering SLI, which has no benfit for NLE, consider a more powerful PS. 600 W may not be enough. Add another SATA disk. Go for 4 GB RAM. Consider the Lite-On LH-20A1S DVD burner, it is currently the most reliable burner available.

I will be using Adobe Premier Pro CS3.

As for the burner, I would like lightscribe and the burner you mentioned, Lite-On LH-20A1S, is not lightscibe enabled. Any dependable lightscribe burners out there?

LG, NEC are the next ones to come to mind, but beware, Lightscribe is sloooowww.Full hub printables and a cheap Canon Pixma inkjet printer may be a better choice.

Harm I run 4gb Ram on my Dell PW380WS, however keep in mind that XP-32 can only see the 1st 3gb and that's only with the /3GB switch enabled in the boot.ini file, unless he's going to run XP-64, the extra GB of memory will not be seen by the OS nor passed onto any app.

XP 32 bit 2 gigs of ram is plenty as when 3 is turned on I enountered a whole bunc of issues that I'd rather not deal with until Vist 64 becomes more stable. Do yourself a favor and don't get xp64 that system is pretty choppy and almost no support out there for it as Vista 64 is the main point of next gen OS interest. Otherwise awesome system, I got the Maximus Formula MB but that doesn't support SLI but I have an 8800 GTS 640mb GDDR3 evga card so I think I'll be alright for a while, I definitely recommend a beast for the price. Also look into getting the Arctic cooler for the proc, I OC'd my machine to 1333 FSB and 3.0ghz and ran the overload test, it perform like butter. good luck.
