Hey guys,

I have just ripped a DVD that has some steadicam shots I worked on. I am unable to add the VOB file to premiere 2. What is a good program that can convert these VOB files into something Premiere likes?

I have encoded the VOB files to Mpeg in the past but I can never get the quality right. And now I don’t even have that program. Forgot the name. Some Mpeg Converter. If you know a good way to go about this I love to here it. Maybe some pointers on settings too?

Try renaming the file from xxx.vob to xxx.mpeg. It would work for me most of the time in PPro 2 and seems to work all the time in PPro 3. Sometimes in PPro 2 it would only bring in part of the file (for example 2 min of a 10 min clip). I never found out how to fix that problem, but when it would happen I would simply 'play' the dvd in into my camcorder and convert it to an avi file with the camcorder's analog to digital converter.

MPEG/DVD is a delivery format - not recommended to bring back into Premiere... you can do it, but your quality will suffer. You will be better off using something like MPEG Streamclip to cut out the portion you need and add it to your final DVD project; no re-encoding will take place.
